Bill Watterud
Insurance Appraiser | Licensed Public Adjuster | Co-Owner, Colorado Claim Appraisers & Disaster Adjusting
Bill Watterud is an insurance appraiser, licensed public adjuster, and co-owner of Colorado Claim Appraisers and Disaster Adjusting. With more than 45 years of experience in construction, restoration, and property insurance claims, he has built a career centered on evaluating complex property losses and helping resolve disputes involving the amount of loss.
A second-generation insurance professional, Bill was introduced to the property restoration and insurance industry at an early age through his father. That early exposure developed into a lifelong career focused on understanding property damage, construction methods, restoration practices, and insurance claim valuation.
Bill’s career began in construction and restoration, where he developed a practical understanding of how buildings are built, repaired, and restored after catastrophic damage. Over the decades, that foundation evolved into extensive experience evaluating residential, commercial, and large-loss property claims involving fire, smoke, water, hail, wind, tornadoes, structural damage, and other complex property losses.
Throughout his career, Bill has worked on thousands of insurance claims, giving him a comprehensive understanding of property damage evaluation, repair estimating, scope development, policy interpretation, and the insurance appraisal process. His experience as both a licensed public adjuster through Disaster Adjusting and an insurance appraiser through Colorado Claim Appraisers provides a broad perspective on how property claims are evaluated from initial documentation through resolution.
Bill has served as both an appraiser and umpire in valuation disputes, applying decades of construction knowledge and estimating expertise to help determine the amount of loss. He is known for conducting thorough property inspections, identifying damage that may otherwise be overlooked, and developing detailed, well-supported scopes of loss based on construction standards and the facts of each claim.
At Colorado Claim Appraisers, Bill focuses on providing objective, comprehensive property valuations when there is disagreement regarding the amount of loss. His approach emphasizes technical accuracy, detailed documentation, sound construction principles, and clear analysis that supports the insurance appraisal process.
Today, through both Colorado Claim Appraisers and Disaster Adjusting, Bill continues to work with homeowners, commercial property owners, contractors, attorneys, and insurance professionals. Across both organizations, he remains committed to delivering thorough property evaluations, applying decades of construction and claims experience, and helping move complex property claims toward fair, well-supported resolutions.

The Experience Behind Every Appraisal
At Colorado Claim Appraisers, every appraisal is backed by decades of hands-on experience in construction, restoration, property insurance claims, and loss valuation. Our team understands that an accurate appraisal begins with understanding how buildings are constructed, how they are damaged, and what it truly takes to restore them.
That experience shapes every property inspection, every scope of loss, and every valuation we prepare. Rather than relying solely on estimates or photographs, we take a comprehensive approach that combines field experience, construction knowledge, estimating expertise, and careful documentation to evaluate the amount of loss.
Our Approach to Insurance Appraisal
Insurance appraisal is about reaching a well-supported determination of the amount of loss. Our role is to provide an objective, thorough evaluation based on the facts, the property, and the repairs required to return the structure to its pre-loss condition.
Whether evaluating hail, wind, fire, smoke, water, or other property damage, our team focuses on conducting detailed inspections, identifying all relevant damage, developing comprehensive scopes of repair, and preparing valuations supported by sound construction principles and industry-standard estimating practices.
Every appraisal is guided by:
- Thorough property inspections
- Detailed documentation and analysis
- Construction-based scopes of repair
- Accurate, well-supported estimating
- Professional integrity and objectivity throughout the appraisal process
Experience Across Residential and Commercial Property Losses
Our experience includes residential homes, commercial buildings, multi-family properties, agricultural structures, hospitality properties, office buildings, retail spaces, and large-loss claims involving a wide range of property damage. Having worked with thousands of claims throughout our careers, we understand the unique challenges different property types and loss events can present.
From initial damage evaluation through the insurance appraisal process, our goal is to provide clear, credible, and well-supported valuation opinions that help move amount-of-loss disputes toward resolution.
Why Experience Matters
Construction knowledge, restoration experience, and decades of property claim involvement provide valuable perspective during the appraisal process. Understanding how buildings perform, how damage affects different building systems, and what is required for proper restoration allows our team to develop comprehensive, fact-based valuations.
At Colorado Claim Appraisers, we are committed to professionalism, technical accuracy, and objective property evaluation. Every appraisal reflects our belief that careful analysis, thorough documentation, and extensive field experience are essential to determining the amount of loss.
